Reporting is available, but it is email-based today
Let's be direct about how it works in the current version: there is no report button inside the chat window yet. Reporting goes through the Report Abuse page, which opens a message to the published support address with the subject and body already filled in for you.
This keeps a clear, auditable channel for reports without adding controls inside rooms. The same page is linked from the Safety guide and the footer.
What to include in your report
The Report Abuse page tells you exactly what to gather. The more of this you can give, the more useful the report is:
- The other user's display name — even a partial name or a description helps.
- The approximate time, or a rough time window, in your local time.
- A short, factual summary of what happened.
- Any screenshots you already took — recommended if you have them, but not required.
Why details matter
Conversations are not stored as chat history, and the browser's copy is gone once the session ends. That means the report is partly your account of what happened rather than a paste of server logs. Writing down the details while they are fresh makes the report stronger.
Reports are reviewed so that patterns of behaviour can be acted on even when individual conversations are temporary.
What to expect after you report
Your message goes to the published support mailbox. This is a human review process, so there is no guarantee of an immediate automated response. If you do not hear back and the matter is important, it is reasonable to follow up by email.
Reporting is not an emergency channel. SecureChitChat is not connected to emergency services — if you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number first.
