Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before using SecureChitChat.
Last updated: September 14, 2026
Can I chat without signing up?
Yes. You can start a guest session with a display name and basic profile details — no account, email or registration is required.
Can I chat with people worldwide?
Yes. People from different countries use the service, and you can start private 1-to-1 conversations with whoever is online.
Are chats always one-to-one?
Yes. Each conversation happens in its own private room between exactly two people. You can hold multiple separate 1-to-1 conversations.
Are external links allowed?
No. External links are blocked in messages, which reduces spam and phishing risks during conversations.
Is my conversation permanently stored?
No. Chat history is not permanently stored, and conversations disappear when the session ends.
Do I have to use my real name?
No. You choose a display name yourself, and your profile and chat history are never permanently stored.
Is my chat truly anonymous?
You chat under a display name you choose and do not need an account. Anonymous here means you do not build a public profile or permanent chat history. Remember that the person you talk to still sees what you type, so avoid sharing personal details.
How are people matched for conversations?
You choose the person you want to talk to from the people currently online. Each conversation is a private room between exactly two people.
What should I do if someone makes me uncomfortable?
Leave the conversation — you are never required to stay. If the behaviour is abusive, report it through the Report Abuse page with as much detail as you can.
What content is not allowed on the service?
Harassment, threats, hate speech, sexual or explicit content aimed at minors, spam, scams, impersonation and any illegal activity are all prohibited.
Can other people see my profile or history?
No. Your profile is temporary and is only used to set up your session, and chat history is not permanently stored.
What if the chat is not working on my device?
Make sure you are using an up-to-date browser and a stable internet connection. Refresh the page and try again. If a problem persists, contact us through the Contact page.
How does the service prevent spam and abuse?
External links are blocked inside chat, sessions are temporary, and reported behaviour can be acted on. These are practical limits, not absolute guarantees: sensible personal judgment is still the most important safety tool.
Can I leave a conversation at any time?
Yes. You can stop talking to someone whenever you want and are never required to stay. The current version has one session-level exit (Leave Session) rather than a per-conversation close button: it ends your whole guest session in that browser and clears its copy of your conversations.
How long does a securechitchat session last?
Guest sessions are temporary. Each session carries an expiry set when it is created, and when it expires the browser is no longer treated as signed in and you go back to the start to create a fresh guest profile if you want to chat again.
What does Leave Session actually do?
Pressing Leave Session tells any other open tabs that the session is ending, closes the chat and presence connections, releases your display name on the backend, removes the session copy from this browser's local storage, clears open conversations from memory and returns you to the home page. Closing the tab without leaving keeps the temporary session in the browser until it expires.
Is anything stored in my browser?
The app keeps a small copy of your guest session in local storage so the same browser profile stays signed in across tabs and to remember the theme you chose. No chat history is stored in the browser: messages live in memory while a conversation is open and are cleared when the session ends. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.
Is there a report button inside the chat?
Not in the current version. Reporting is email-based through the Report Abuse page, which opens a pre-filled message to the published support address. The page explains exactly what to include — display name, approximate time and a short summary — and screenshots are recommended if you have them.
